Another recommendation from a co-worker. The song is ridiculously catchy and the art direction in the video makes me so happy. Have you ever seen two shoe soles that look like jaws chomp on a mans head as he sings against a pane of glass? Now you can.
Pomplamoose -- According to Wikipedia “The name of the band derives from the French word pamplemousse, meaning grapefruit.” I love that. Their band shirt is a sliced grapefruit with antlers! I want to put them in my pocket. I came across this band over the weekend and I have been tickling my ears with their originals and covers non-stop. On top of that, they have this really interesting style to their videos which they describe as a videosong. For your viewing pleasure:
My personal favorite so far…
and what? a Lady GaGa cover? Don’t worry. It’s good. Be adventurous and press play.
I’m staying really busy with work and my doggles and selling all my furniture on craigslist so I can start over. My weekends have been pretty packed with fun times though. Last weekend I spent an entire day in the magical land of Ikea and the next day I went with 11 other people to Medieval Times in Dallas and it was absurd but still really funny. But I digress…the real reason for this post is my art director at work has been playing this song a lot and I cant get enough of it. You cant really go wrong with Santogold, Lykke Li, and Kanye West, can you? N.A.S.A. – Gifted
I started thinking about that razzle dazzle song that Leslie Hall sang on Yo Gabba Gabba the other day which reminded me that she actually has some really fun songs. I appreciate that she lets it all hang out (or get squeezed in?) in her gold spandex. She also has some pretty sick dance moves. She makes me want to wear a gem sweater. Truth. Leslie Hall – How We Go Out
That title is absolute nonsense. That’s how my dad says Monday…or any day of the week actually. It’s not a day, it’s a dee.
So it’s official. I am employed. Not just employed, but actually doing something I’m good at and don’t feel is a massive waste of my time. Hoooooray!
Now for something completely different…
In the past, I haven’t been the best about sharing music with people and used mix CDs as my medium. Not only does it take longer for me to compile enough high caliber tracks to make a mix CD, it just seems like a waste of plastic. I also had a weird protective attitude towards bands that I loved so I wanted my friends to like them, but not as much as I did. I have no idea what that was about and it seems so silly now. This is how I am making up for it.
I have to credit my lovely friend Menno for showing me these bands that I hadn’t heard of but absolutely love. The first one even has a gorgeously animated video. Your eyes and ears will thank you. Gotye – Hearts a Mess
This second video is a sister duet from Sweden who have a great indie-folk sound. I want to put them in my pocket even though this song hurts my heart. First Aid Kit – You’re Not Coming Home Tonight
I’ve been slacking. In an effort to make you forget that, I’m going to show you three bands I’ve been really digging this week.
Hoover’s Ooover – Collection
This Japanese band was featured on an episode of Adam and Joe Go Tokyo (which I loooved) and I find this song ridiculously infectious.
Life Without Buildings – PS Exclusive
This band from Glasgow, Scotland is now defunct but if you never picked up their 2001 release Any Other City then you’re missing out. Due to a lack of decent video you get to stare at the album cover.
Kasabian -Take Aim
From their 2009 release West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum. I enjoy the entire album but this track is getting left on repeat a LOT. All of the videos I found were live and had crap sound quality so again, stare at the album cover.
I’ve always thought this guy was funny. He was part of Human Giant(which was hilarious) and currently you can see him in Parks and Recreation. I’d never seen any of his stand-up until Chris showed me “Intimate Moments for a Sensual Evening” the other day and I’ve watched it twice since then and it’s still ridiculously amusing. This excerpt is a bit about having a stranger living with you and the weird crap that comes along with it. I am all too familiar with awful roommates. I once had one who pushed my recliner up to the TV and played xbox 360 16 hrs of the day while devouring a constant stream of pizza and never bathing. Aside from that the roommate was also a doppleganger and would style his hair exactly like mine whenever I left the house so that I could come home to a single white female surprise. But I digress…
In some epic hang-my-head-in-shame error, when I made my 09 mix I skipped over the band that I have been listening to on repeat for months. Here are two special songs to make up for it. You need them.
